National Weather Service News

We are in the middle of severe weather season and, unfortunately, we could see all modes of severe storms across South Texas.

After an eventful Monday, with thick morning clouds breaking up just in time to catch a glimpse of the total solar eclipse, chances for severe storms are brewing this week in Texas. Kicking off a multiple-day severe weather event across the region is a large storm system moving from the desert Southwest into Texas. The system is providing the necessary lift in the atmosphere for the development of storms over the next few days.

Cantaloupe-size hail actually fell once in Texas. Here’s where. The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center has highlighted our area with a level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather. That typically means isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are possible. The main threats will be heavy downpours but also large hail and damaging winds — and a tornado or two can’t be ruled out. Keep in mind that this threat zone can always change, depending on what happens earlier in the day.
