"When you look at both of those areas that have not normally received those services now, we'll be able to get those services for the community," said assistant city manager and interim ACS director David McCary.SAN ANTONIO- Two weeks ago, San Antonio city council members approved two new spay-neuter clinics , one on the west side and the other on the city's east side.
These clinics are expected to begin operations early next year with funding coming from Animal Care Services’ annual budget. ACS hopes that the addition of these facilities will help meet their goal of forty thousand surgeries. The areas that were chosen to house these clinics were decided after looking at where access to veterinary care is needed.
These areas are also known for having large loose dog populations. Local organization SNIPSA, which assists ACS with sterilizations, hopes that with these clinics up and running fewer animals on the streets. This week the governance committee approved a new set of policies surrounding loose and dangerous dogs. Part of that conversation included ensuring pet owners are complying with a sterilization agreement. Mccary said that education is the main component.
