A Tornado Warning has been issued for Guadalupe County until 8:45 p.m. Winds of 40 mph and softball-sized hail may be possible.SAN ANTONIO - Last summer was one of the hottest on record, and the city is looking at new ways to cool things down. With a special coating, the sun reflects instead of soaking into the asphalt, which can help lower the overall temperature of an area.

Researchers write that this shows there is "clear potential" for cooling pavement to reduce surface temperatures."The cool pavement site compared to a freshly paved asphalt was an 18 degree reduction," said Doug Melnick, the city's Chief Sustainability Officer.Like we told you last year, it was supposed to be four.

City leaders could have to determine if those few degrees are worth a few more million dollars as the program expands."A million dollars may seem like a lot, but if we can learn how that tool can be used, and leveraged to reduce heat, and improve quality of life... I think it's invaluable," Melnick said.He and other experts say this coating could actually make the roads stronger.

"It usually lasts about five years," Myers says of regular pavement. "Cool pavement can last seven to nine years."
