The filmmaker was honored at the historic Austin theater during an unveiling ceremony this weekend.

San Antonio native and filmmaker Robert Rodriguez ’s name is now a permanent part of Austin ’s Paramount Theatre. Rodriguez was immortalized with a star on the venue’s Avenue of Paramount Stars, its Walk of Fame that recognizes Texans who have left their mark on Austin culture. The award-winning director attended an unveiling Saturday to kick off the theater’s 50th Summer Classic Film Series.

Zach Bryan, Peso Pluma and more hot summer shows coming to San Antonio In 1991, as a student at the University of Texas at Austin, Rodriguez wrote the script for his first feature film, 'El Mariachi,' while sequestered at a drug research facility as a paid subject in a clinical trial, according to the Texas Cultural Trust.
