Lone Star Fugitive Task Force News

Jose Armando Mejia, 24, was arrested May 4 by Mexican authorities and extradited to Bexar County. He's accused of killing one person and injuring two others.

A suspect who had been sought for 22 years in connection with a deadly shooting on the near West Side has been arrested in Mexico and extradited to Texas . Jose 'Nene' Armando Mejia , 46, faces charges of murder, attempted murder and injury to a child by criminal negligence. Mejia was 24 when he allegedly shot and killed Lee Roy Campos , also 24, on April 26, 2002. According to police, three men went into an apartment in the 900 block of Angela Street to buy drugs from Campos.

Mejia then barged into a bedroom and shot Campos, along with a 19-year-old woman and a 6-year-old girl who were asleep in the room. Mejia fled the scene. Campos suffered a fatal shotgun wound to the head. The 19-year-old and the girl were injured by shotgun pellets. For 22 years, Mejia eluded capture. This year, the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, which operates under the U.S. Marshals Service, took on the search for Mejia.
