With experience in the system after playing in Houston last season, Alex Mollette's ability to diagnose defenses has been key for San Antonio.

Long enamored with the cerebral aspects of football, San Antonio Brahmas center Alex Mollette first broke into the sport at middle linebacker. An understanding of the Xs and Os was always natural for Mollette, and a post in the middle of the defense leveraged his ability to break down opponents, knowing what was coming before the ball was snapped.

San Antonio Brahmas select Chase Garbers to start at quarterback as opener nears Though his 6-foot-2 frame is just shy of ideal for the position, Mollette said he aims to make up the gap mentally, earning All-XFL honors with the Houston Roughnecks last season after going undrafted out of Marshall in 2022. Following coach Wade Phillips to his new role in San Antonio this year, Mollette projects to be a fixture up front as the Brahmas open their first UFL season with a matchup against the D.C.

Energetic linebacker duo poised to anchor San Antonio Brahmas defense Mollette partly credits his strength diagnosing defenses to his work with Brahmas offensive line coach Andre Gurode, who also made the shift from Houston to San Antonio this year. A five-time Pro Bowl selection who played center for the Dallas Cowboys from 2002-10, Gurode helps Mollette sort through opponents’ film, breaking down the disguises that seek to hide coverages.

YouTube star 'Deestroying' earns nod as San Antonio Brahmas kicker Seeing the NFL experience dotting San Antonio’s roster, Mollette said he “would trust everybody we have” to hold their own up front. He hopes another standout year in a more talented league could position him for an NFL opportunity, adding to his undrafted free agent stint in Colts preseason camp in 2022 and his time with the Lions last season. “I’m just looking for the right fit,” Mollette said.
