Jackson was honored with a lifetime achievement award during the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences annual Governors Awards ceremony on Friday night, but it was an even that wasn't televised or streamed anywhere.
One of the biggest and most-beloved stars of all time receiving a long overdue statuette by another of the biggest and most-beloved stars of all time, and we all missed it? It's possible there will be at least a snippet of this joyous moment during Sunday's broadcast, but it's still something fans might have appreciated seeing live.
Washington was ebullient as he listed off all of Jackson's sterling credits, both on-screen and through his charitable work. He made particular note that it is quite possible Jackson is the most successful movie star of all time, by box office, with his films having earned $27 billion there. Jackson was clearly touched in his own speech, joking about how his career started with him scoring major roles like"Gang Member Number 2" and"Black Guy" to featuring in more than 150 projects. While there were no TV cameras broadcasting live, fans could at least catch some of the highlights of this special moment by following The New York Times' Kyle Buchanan on Twitter.
So, uTata Rolihlahla Nelson Mandela (1) got arrested, (2) got released after 27 years, (3) became state president, (4) retired, (5) appeared at the 1st RSA FIFA W/C, (6) and passed away 9 years ago, age 95. And uncle Sam only got his FIRST Oscar yesterday? Are ya'll for real?
All of this 'the first' is problematic. Samuel Jackson is one of the best actors to do it and recognizing this in 2022 is not the tea. If tolerated not celebrated was a person.
Two of my favorite actors. So damn talented
He sux
We didn’t see it live omg smh
I’m all for the Oscars not televising all the categories. All award shows do it. There’s just to many. However, this is a category people actually like and care about. Leave it up to The academy to get it wrong as always. I’m sure going forward this category will be televised.
Of course it wasn’t televised 🤦🏻♂️
africaupdates So Samuel Jackson hadn’t won an Oscar all this while? How come?
Very well deserved!!
Well deserved 🙌🏽🙌🏽
This definitely should've been televised
Of course it was non-televised. I've lost all respect for the Academy at this point. And i realize, i am only one person. Im not in the film industry. But im tired of seeing great films, great directors, and great actors completely passed over time and time again.
he deserved it for so many other movies.
Absolutely crazy that they don't include this category in the live broadcast. WTF?!?!?!
ShadySean420 The Oscars don’t want to show it on TV cause it involves African Americans….. allegedly.
Should have won it for Jules in Pulp Fiction.
Yeah I know why, ain’t no way they gonna be able to bleep out that many mf’s 😂😂😂
Just like Hollywood to not show Samuel 'Motherfucking' Jackson getting his motherfucking due.
Can’t believe this man never received an Oscar before 🤦🏽♀️ Congrats to him, well deserved 👏🏽
