Samsung has just made sure that Apple doesn’t hog all the AI headlines this week—and it’s exciting news for millions of Galaxy users…This is interesting—and timely. Smartphone AI has been headline news all week, with the shock revelation that Apple is discussing a potential “” deal with Google to kit out next-gen iPhones with Gemini AI. This would enable Apple to play catch-up with its premium rival Samsung, whose Galaxy AI is well advanced.
We knew that. The new news is that Samsung is also “exploring whether Galaxy AI can be applied to previous models, including the S22 series.” That doesn’t mean it isn’t also pushing handset upgrades, Roh also confirmed “research on new form factors such as roller phones and slider phones, followed by foldables, is ongoing.”
That means nothing is certain—yet, but it seems unlikely Roh would be this open unless some of these advances were well progressed and derisked. “Galaxy AI is aiming for ‘hybrid AI’ that combines not only cloud-based but also on-device AI technology,” Roh reiterated at the AGM. “This is highly impacted by hardware performance a lot of resource and effort is being invested in on-device AI given these hardware constraints. We're working on plans step by step to support a decent Galaxy AI user experience.
