DAVID MUNDEE As he closed his interview Wednesday morning after signing to play golf at Coastal Alabama Community College in Brewton, Samson senior Coy Ingram summed up his feelings. The Tiger senior had long envisioned a career past high school in golf, a sport he began to follow closely at age 5 and started playing at age 8.
“Me and my older brother started watching it on TV one day,” Ingram said. “We would watch the pros do what they do with the club and make the ball do what they wanted it to do. It mesmerized us, and we wanted to try it.” After a couple of years, the family bought a right-handed set, which he has used since – and used well during a strong high school career. He advanced to the sub-state round three seasons, narrowly missing a spot in the state tournament a couple of times, and he was selected last year to participate in the North-South All-Star match.
Ingram, who also played basketball at Samson, said he eventually received several offers to play golf, though it was a while before those came rolling in to him.
