The Salt Lake Tribune, the largest newspaper in Utah, is becoming a nonprofit, marking a new approach in a struggling industry seeking new business models to stay afloat

The newspaper on Monday said its application had been approved by the Internal Revenue Service. The move comes just three years after the paper was acquired by Paul Huntsman, a member of one of the wealthiest families in the state, underscoring the considerable challenges facing local news outlets as readership and ad dollars have shifted online.

CourtneyLTanner I wish more people still read the newspaper. My husband and i read each other articles on our honeymoon from a physical newspaper and it was beautiful.

Aren't most newspapers being run as non-profit, although that would rather be profitable

This will not stop what is coming

So they are going to increases their wages and not paying taxes?

Croucher’s rule 1 : Any organisation not run for profit will be run for the benefit of the employees. Fine is that is the goal. But not so find for long term survival as the employees bleed it dry and reduce their productivity.
