City Council on Thursday agreed to give JCB Manufacturing $14 million in tax breaks and grants for its planned South Side plant — on top of the $12 million in subsidies that Bexar County officials awarded the company last week. The British construction and agricultural equipment manufacturing giant announced in October it would build a $269 million plant in San Antonio and hire nearly 1,600 workers.

The company will also receive up to $2.35 million in grants, which can be used to reimburse development costs, as well as $1 million in city fee waivers and $500,000 in SAWS fee waivers. The city also nominated JCB as a “Triple Jumbo Texas Enterprise Zone” project, a designation which could earn the company up to $3.

Last month, the City Council approved rezoning about 400 acres at 13610 Texas 16 S. for JCB’s planned facility. The property is northwest of Toyota's vehicle manufacturing plant. JCB aims to break ground on the facility in May. The plant is slated to open by May 2026.
