Ravnsborg struck and killed a pedestrian Saturday night.South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg speaks in Sioux Falls, S.D., in February 2014. Ravnsborg struck and killed a pedestrian Saturday night. The top law enforcement official in South Dakota told officials that he believed he hit a deer on a rural stretch of road on Saturday night.
"I didn't see what I hit and stopped my vehicle immediately to investigate," Ravnsborg said, according to the paper. He added that he thought it was"a large animal ."He called the Hyde County sheriff to the scene and, according to authorities, told themin a car-deer crash. They searched for what Ravnsborg hit but did not find anything at the time, the attorney general said in the statement.
"As I walked along the shoulder of the road I discovered the body of Mr. Boever in the grass just off the roadway," the letter said."My chief of staff and I checked and it was apparent that Mr. Boever was deceased."
This is very suspicious!!Who investigates this is very important!!
A “Debris “Field”...
Probably hit that mythical creature. The one that changes from human to animal. And have the ability to appear and disappear. Tell me 'bout Santa Claus
Poor fella that was killed deserves some justice. He doesn’t get the privilege of taking out a 2 page article explaining why he was there and exactly what the AG was doing at the point of impact. Now AG gets to spin the narrative however he wants. Oh def no alcohol officers! 💵
It's completely reasonable to confuse a person for a deer when you are speeding and drunk.
I wonder if he’ll demand to prosecute himself, drop the charges, ultimately, and then sue the state for malicious prosecution.
Sure!!! It’s about 2 hit the fan!!!
it’s not close enough to christmas for even drunks to be wearing antlers!!
4mmjf Hummm coming home from a fundraising event. Wonder what his blood alcohol level was at the time he hit the guy . By leaving the scene and not copping to it until next day it wouldn’t be detected. He’s getting his lies straight .
Why is he not in jail? If it were me, I’d be in jail! govkristinoem JasonRavnsborg
Any person not high or drunk, would stop their damn car to see what they hit.
Just how drunk was he?
That is so sad
How many hit&run suspects get to take out an ad in their local newspaper to tell their version of the story? In lieu of a full police or independent investigation? Are not defendants usually told to not discuss their case ? And now if there were a trial?
Lying drunk
Oh he did stop and didn't see anything. Yikes.
His career is over
I hit a deer once. Not much vehicle damage, but hair (fur) stuck to my car. If there was a debris field, wouldn't you see parts of the deer? The sheriff loaned his personal vehicle? Sounds strange on many levels.
Geezus, that’s horrible! I’m sorry for everyone involved
1. Why did he look for a deer? If he really thought it was a deer he would have kept going (unless he wanted venison?) 2. Why isn't he in jail
My God. I pray for the person’s family.
if you live in the country, you know this is bullshit.
😱😱😱 Does he have witnesses that can verify that he didn’t take any drugs or drink any alcohol during his dinner or drive? How can you not tell if you hit a person or a deer?
I have been at wheel of a car that hit and killed a man. You know the difference - you know what you hit. And if you stop and check and think you hit a deer and don’t find a deer - well you hit something. His story does not ring true......
BULLSHIT
Woooo! Must have been a snowy blizzard or heavy torrential down pouring of rain that affected his visibility sight which effected his judgement to stop and see what he had hit.
Why did he go back to check the next day? If he had any question (and was sober) he needed to stop and check immediately. Manslaughter, at least.
Getting away with vehicular homicide. Didn’t report until he was sober. He needs to resign.
Article says he called the police and they checked and didn't find anything. Surely they have cameras in their cars at least, if not body cams. What's that video show?
I'm sure they had cell phones. With that, they couldn't tell the difference between a man and a deer?
And he didn't stop to check if the animal was okay or the damage to his car? Just kept going..?
Hmmm?
OUI?
Sounds fishy !
Unreleased footage of SD AG the night of the incident
LockHimUp like y’all would do anybody else
sanityzone He will get away with it. He is a Republican in astate with a Republican governor. She’s already proven life means little to her by her anti-mask stance.
Oops! It sounds like he was under the influence.... sorry! I meant he needs to get a prescription to get new glasses 🤓. If he couldn’t identify a deer from a human, I think that condition is called being a moron. No worry the republican jury will believe the deer story.
This is totally normal and cool.
He was drunk-and was afraid to be caught. Lock him up!!!!!!!
Big difference in damage between hitting a deer and a person. I'm leaning towards he was lying to save his sorry ass.
so ya think he would have stopped to see if there was any damage to the car? I know most GOP don't care about wildlife, but I would have stopped to see if the deer was ok/dead and probably called Animal control to end its suffering, WTH did he go back? totally fishy!
Que the video followed by his recorded confession followed by the illicit affair with a prostitute in a furbie costume and allegations of prescription substance abuse. What am I missing straight out of this GOP typical playbook? Oh yeah, texting w VP Cheney
Welp, SOMEONE was driving drunk...
Very suspicious. I hope they do a thorough investigation and he doesn’t have any pull over whoever is conducting it.
Didn't get out and check? ;/
That's what the guy gets for wearing a deer costume on the road, I guess?
Does anyone else smell fish?
1. He was coming home from a GOP fundraiser which likely served alcohol 2. He has a long record of speeding 3. You know when you hit a deer because they look at you and freeze “deer in the headlights” Seems more likely that he drank, drove, hit that poor man and fled the scene
This needs serious attention
State AG was likely tired, stressed, and there was little moonlight. Still, fishy not to find a body after hitting someone unless excessive speed or he was additionally distracted.
The head line should be he killed a man and has covered up the crime. There is no gray area here. This man struck a human being with his car and left him to die in a ditch. He’s a cold blooded murderer.
Attorney general involved in hit and run should have been your lead.
that's not an easy mistake to make. he knew. it's his coverup
To be fair deer and people look exactly the same when blackout drunk.
What bar was he at the night before?
It might be an unfortunate accident but the provided story and chain of events is odd enough to raise a red flag. As the top LEO he should know the protocol.
If I unexpectedly hit something as large as a “deer”, the first thing I’d do is stop my car and see what I’d hit. 🤔
Lock him up
Has echos of Janklow. Forgive me, but I don't believe the story he tells any more than I believed Bill's 'low blood sugar' story. It's the same 'above the law' attitude that SD 'conservative' politicians seem to have had since the Mickelson died.
Well well well, the SD AG thought he mowed down a dear instead of a human. Most states have a statute that requires a motorists to stop at the accident scene to inspect what they hit, animal or human or even something else. Was the AG DUI by chance?
It’s amazing! I’ve read other press coverage of this story that paint a much different, and may I say, more even and less conspiratorial, slant to this unfortunate story. WTG for bungling it again.
I think this “Hyde County Sheriff” needs a closer look. Very fishy.
I thought this was an onion headline at first
Now they go after South Dakota.
Similar to a story yrs ago in Pennsylvania. A PA State Pol, Thomas Druce, ended up doing time for the hit and run death of a black man and marine corps veteran. Druce did everything possible to cover it up, incl whether alcohol was involved. SouthDakotaAG
Do people call the police when they hit a deer?
Anyone who has hit a deer before knows this is BS.
Ask HelenaMorenoLA who to get away with it. She did!
I am calling bullshit on that excuse
How drunk was he?
Jason Ravnsborg pleaded guilty to 6 counts of speeding from 2014 to 2019 in six different counties. Let. That. Sink. In.
Well Laura Bush can attest that there is a different law for Republicans especially when it comes to hit and runs.
Unless he drives a tank, that car wouldn’t be able to head home if he hit a deer. If you don’t believe me, do a quick search on “car hits deer.” That car is not going anywhere.Driver usually gets cut out of the car and gets airlifted. Car towed. Not pretty.
Can’t tell you the number of hit and runs I’ve seen where the driver was leaving a place with ready access to alcohol. Weird coincidence.
He was drunk
Who hits anything with their car, and doesn't stop
🤨
Why wouldn't he pull over to check even if he did hit a deer when he had the report the carcass on the side of the road
hit and run
All I keep thinking about is would the man be alive today had the SD AG made a 911 call and an ambulance arrived to administer emergency med attention, instead of leaving the guy to die by the side of the road. Sounds very sketchy
He full of shit just like Diane Grahm sons that are going to prison.
This reeks of bullshit
If that guys the defendant I can’t be on the jury. I’d just say he did it. I mean, look at him
Prison
He was at a bar right before this... dude comitted felony manslaughter under the influence
They waiting just long enough for the alcohol to be out of his system.
He can't even convince his mother with that nonsense.
I doubt he believes he truly hit a deer.
Sad. And strangely, his blood alcohol levels - were perfectly acceptable the NEXT DAY, as well.
He was either DUI, looking at his phone, dozing off, or any combination of the above.
We’ve investigated ourselves and we are innocent.
I'd probably say that if I was drunk and panicked, too
Maybe it was a dear, dear friend.
South Dakota...welcoming Arkansas' cast-offs since 1868...
Time is needed to get somewhat sober.
Looks like a very unfortunate accident.
A human vs a deer? What a bunch of baloney. Too late to check is blood alcohol level.
I believe they said North Dakota was investigating. So the departments that he controls would not be in charge of the investigation. Is this accurate?
Is the 2nd sentence: 'it wasn't until the next day that it became clear he'd actually struck and killed a person' NPR's assessment or is this still part of what the AG 'believed' Because it might have been VERY clear to the AG when it happened and he's now...LYING!
Sounds like season 1 opener of Line of Duty. Spoiler, it was intentional.
*It wasn’t until the next day that he became sober...
How the hell do you mistake a person for a deer. What bullshit.
He's so busted.
Your absolutely right!
He thought it was a antifa-deer, so he went home.
No decency to check?
How many drinks did he have?
I have also hit a deer—who was wearing clothes and walking on two legs—before.
State authorities are investigating. Good thinking!
I've hit a deer-- you know when it's a deer.
Arrest now without bail. Flight risk!
