Joseph Oberlies, 33, has been charged with burglary and destruction or desecration of human remains.

the incident occurred last week. Video from a security camera reportedly shows Oberlies approach the home just before 3 a.m., enter a security code and go inside. He was seen leaving soon afterward, but then returned around 4 a.m. and did not leave until nearly 8 a.m.. Oberlies reportedly had been warned by police before the incident that if he trespassed on the property he could be arrested.

While inside the home, Oberlies is accused of damaging the woman’s TV with a hammer. He reportedly found the container with the child’s ashes, took off the lid and dumped the ashes in the garbage. Oberlies is not the father of the child, reports say. WCSC reports that Oberlies told police that he was very drunk and does not remember entering the home.
