Ryan Reynolds gets on the ABBA meme trend to poke fun at X-Men actor Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. The Deadpool actor made his franchise debut in the critically-panned X-Men Origins: Wolverine film from Fox, but has since then made a resurgence with the character in his own movie series.
After working together in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Reynolds and Jackman's Marvel characters never shared the screen again, despite the clamor for it. As Deadpool thrived with its newfound popularity, Jackman concluded his time as Wolverine in the the critically acclaimed movie Logan from director James Mangold.
Jackman never appeared in any of the Deadpool films, and despite the public's interest for him to reprise Wolverine in the MCU, the actor has been adamant about his retirement from the role. Meanwhile, Reynolds will continue the Deadpool franchise under the MCU banner, with Deadpool 3 marking its first R-rated project. Thanks to his ability to break the fourth wall, not to mention the budding Marvel multiverse, it would be fairly easy to explain the franchise transfer.
While Reynolds does regularly poke fun at Jackman on social media, it's still worth wondering if there's anything more to their latest exchange. The pair are good friends with each other, and after Patrick Stewart's Doctor Strange 2 Professor X cameo, it isn't outside the realm of possibility that Jackman has been finally convinced to reprise his X-Men role in Deadpool 3.
