Videos have begun to circulate online showing alleged rioters in Russia purportedly storming a flight from Israel in an attempt to attack Jewish passengers.The incident took place at a local airport on Sunday evening local time in Makhachkala, a city in the Russian Republic of Dagestan, according to The Jerusalem Post. A crowd reported to be local residents stormed a plane arriving from Tel Aviv, the second-most-populous city in Israel.
Newsweek could not independently verify the videos, but the riot was widely covered by Russian media.According to The Jerusalem Post, the pilots of the plane had reportedly been notified of the rioters, causing them to reroute to a different airport than was initially planned. The crowd was, nevertheless, able to reach the other airport as well. Rosaviatsia, the Russian aviation authority, reported that only a small number of the flight's passengers were Israeli or Jewish.
