The beloved Flagstaff, Arizona-based runner and physical therapist has been fighting a respiratory condition.

But due to an unknown respiratory issue , Puzey has been hospitalized for nearly three weeks. He’s spent much of that time on a ventilator while doctors continue to try and figure out what might be happening to him.

We reached out to some of the people who know him best and heard story after story about the kindness and compassion that makes Puzey who he is.Puzey, who was born in a rural New Mexico town before moving to Oregon at a later age, has always been a good listener, according to Jacob. The two were constantly together growing up, sharing bunkbeds and going on adventures in rural farmland. Puzey played soccer and basketball—until he joined his older brother for a distance race.

Puzey took a class taught by Jacob when the older brother was a teaching assistant as a grad student, and there was a cute girl in the class named Stephanie. She was too young for Jacob, so he pushed her toward Tommy.
