The city of Springfield, Missouri, cancels major summer festival as COVID-19 surges in the region.

The Birthplace of Route 66 Festival, which was scheduled for Aug. 13-14 and typically includes live music and a classic car parade, has been called off for the second year in a row due to COVID-19. In 2019, the last year the festival was held, it drew 65,000 attendees over two days, and it was expected to host 75,000 this year, according to the city.

"With our region’s low vaccination rate against COVID-19, the resulting surge of infections are overwhelming our hospitals and making our community sick," Cora Scott, director of public information and civic engagement for the city,."We feel it is just not safe to bring tens of thousands of people from all over the world to this community for any reason."

Missouri's vaccination rate trails the national average. As of Monday, 46% of residents had received at least one dose, and 40% were fully vaccinated,, compared with 56% of all Americans who've gotten at least one shot and 48% who are fully vaccinated. In Greene County, where Springfield is located, vaccination rates are even lower than the statewide average. Just 39% of Greene County residents have received one dose of the vaccine, and 34% are fully vaccinated,A sign warning of COVID-19 dangers remains in place on June 15, 2021 outside the entryway of a state office building in Jefferson City, Mo.

Missouri is among a growing list of states that have seen rising infections, with new cases increasing 64% over the last two weeks, from 796 to 1,304, with a total of 9,100 cases per week, according data from the Department of Health and Human Services. Missouri, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana and Nevada lead the nation with the highest weekly case rates per capita, which translates into more than 100 infections per 100,000 residents.

Covid-19: PM urges caution as 19 July unlocking set to go aheadBoris Johnson warns that Covid cases, currently at 30,000 a day, will rise as restrictions end. If people could be trusted to act responsibly and with caution the lockdowns wouldn't have been needed in the first place. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ Either unlock or don’t unlock but DONT give us some kind of half hearted “get on with it” and then let the media rip into everybody who they perceive to be “in the wrong” and demand restrictions put back.

Kristi Noem criticizes GOP governors who enacted Covid-19 mandatesSouth Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem questioned the grit and instinct of fellow GOP governors who enacted Covid-19 measures like mask mandates and business closures to stop the spread of the virus in their states last year, warning that some of them are now 'rewriting history' about their records as the threat wanes across the country. White fragility crying contest. Who can sht out their mouth the farthest? She said 'demand honesty from your leaders'? How about she start with her Attorney General who first said he hit a deer but then he couldn't explain the eyeglasses. Now he says it was 'suicide by drunk driver'. Start there with honesty babe. Kristi took the Trump approach: let em die. He certainly accomplished his goal but that’s not what leaders in crisis do. They look out 4 citizen’s well being. She failed 2 do that & why she’s not potus material. Talk is cheap, K & you’ve proved that.

Lambda Variant Of Covid-19 Coronavirus Is Spreading, What You Need To KnowThe Lambda variant of the SARS-CoV-2 has become the dominant strain in Peru, which has had the highest Covid-19 case fatality rate in the world. What we know is that, it’s a fraud just like the media Given the frequency with which Forbes continues to publish covid hysteria pieces we must ask just exactly how much direct ad revenue per annum Forbes receives from the pharma sector - such a relationship should require disclosure as part of your conflict policy. Decent info here but the flippant writing undercuts it. “The Lambda variant doesn’t qualify as a VOC at this moment because studies have not yet confirmed that it is transmissible, causes worse illness, or better able to get past the vaccines or treatments than other versions..”
