Music icon Rod Stewart announced he turned down more than $1 million to perform at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Stewart said he was"offered a lot of money, over $1 million, to play there 15 months ago," but turned it down."It's not right to go. And the Iranians should be out too for supplying arms," he said.Stewart is just one of many who have spoken out against the Gulf nation's hosting of the tournament, citing its laws against women and LGBTQ people as well as its treatment of migrant workers.

Pop star Dua Lipa was quick to shoot down rumors that she would be performing at the World Cup, which starts this weekend."I will not be performing and nor have I ever been involved in any negotiations to perform," she posted to social media. "I look forward to visiting Qatar when it has fulfilled all the human rights pledges it made when it won the right to host the World Cup."
