The Rockets, undeterred by Udoka’s departure from the Boston Celtics after one greatly successful season, chose Udoka to succeed Stephen Silas and become the 16th coach in franchise history, a person with knowledge of the decision said Monday, reaching an “agreement in principle” with Udoka.and dismissed in February for having an improper relationship with a staff member that was considered a violation of team rules.
“I want to apologize to our players, fans, the entire Celtics organization, and my family for letting them down,” Udoka said in the statement. “I am sorry for putting the team in this difficult situation, and I accept the team’s decision. Out of respect for everyone involved, I will have no further comment.”
