The rocket fell harmlessly but was seen as a warning shot to the United States amid escalating tensions with Iran.

By Mustafa Salim and Tamer El-Ghobashy Tamer El-Ghobashy Baghdad bureau chief focusing on Iraq's politics, security and the fight against the Islamic State Email Bio Follow May 19 at 3:58 PM BAGHDAD — A rocket landed inside Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone, which houses the sprawling American embassy, Iraqi security officials said Sunday, in an apparent warning shot to the United States amid escalating tensions with Iran.

Shiite militias with deep ties to Tehran have gained unprecedented political and military power over the last three years and have repeatedly used rocket launches toward American diplomatic missions to express their displeasure with U.S. policies. Iraq’s president and prime minister have insisted Baghdad seeks close ties with both powers and wants to remain neutral in the rivalry that has exploded into bellicose warnings of military action since President Trump took office. He pulled out of a nuclear accord among Iran, Europe and the United States and imposed widespread economic sanctions.

WAPO's SPIES.......err I Mean...Surveillance Assets in Iraq Missed Again!

It was likely fired by the U.S. to fabricate military action against it by Iran so 'fake news' stories such as this can condition the people with propaganda. Do I have that right?

Rocketman moive promotion.

This isnt new

Thank you Trump

Well it is their country that we’ve occupied forever. Should have had our people out of there long ago.

Did trump have it launched intentionally to create a war scenario

Find out who launched and then launch ten at them.

Did SecPompeo get to finish his fourth plate from all you can eat buffet?

.

Welcome to a fraction of the attacks Israel faces every day.

It looks like the US is trying to manufacture an excuse to go to war with Iran. Obviously the Trump administration is more interested in war than Iran is. It seems likely that they are trying to frame Iran here.

I can't imagine why someone would want to fire rockets at U.S. officials in Iraq.

You sure it wasn’t fired by Erik Prince after John Bolton slipped a couple mill?

Having been to Iraq, a single rocket isn’t a huge deal. Rocket attacks were quite the norm, even at the tail end of our occupation. Hope this isn’t made into a bigger deal than it needs to be. C-RAM systems used by the US are quite effective as well.

Here we go...the Gulf of Tonkin moment...

Hey Iran.... Calm down... Seriously...

I'll wait for the details but this seems very suspect that Iran would be sending warning shots unprovoked especially since they didn't do anything to the warships in the Persian Gulf

Trust me, guys... duck and cover.
