The Rochester, New York police department — already under pressure following the death of Daniel Prude — was investigating an incident Saturday in which 16 people were shot, two fatally, in what the city council’s vice president, called “one of the largest acts of gun violence this city has ever seen.”celebration of life in Prude's memory on September 10, 2020, in Rochester, New York.

An internal review into Prude’s arrest and subsequent death show a “pervasive problem” in the Police Department, theAt a media briefing early Saturday, according to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, Simmons called the incident “truly a tragedy of epic proportions, if you ask me,” adding.

In a separate statement, Willie Lightfoot, city council vice president, urged residents to remain calm.
