Previous presidents have avoided blurring the line between campaign-style events, such as party conventions, with the official business of governing from the White House. Now, questions are bubbling about the propriety of the arrangement.

White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows defended Trump's decision to deliver his convention address from the White House, saying Monday it is necessary during the "unprecedented time” as the country battles the COVID-19 pandemic.

“No, it's not about convenience," Meadows said."I think it's about for most people wanting to understand and hear from the President of the United States on what he's going to do to make sure the next four years continue to build on the last four years.” After concerns were raised following the announcement of the speech location, the U.S. Office of Special Counsel said in a letter that Trump could deliver his RNC speech from the White House because"the President and Vice President are not covered by any of the provisions of the Hatch Act."

Judd Deere, a White House spokesman, said the White House would be careful to abide by the Hatch Act, saying “RNC convention events will be planned and executed, at whatever the venue, by the Trump campaign and RNC.”Republicans are arguing that the speech on the South Lawn may avoid the part of the Hatch Act's provision that prohibits partisan activities in federal buildings,This won't be the first time a sitting president has used the White House to accept a party's nomination.

Oh for crying out loud, cry baby...that's where our president lives. Be sinceable.

Because no matter WHAT we gave to find something to fault with this poor guy— GIVE IT ARREST— none of these are the hill we need to die on— bunch of spoiled babies— you should be proud

Only because of the pandemic, I am willing to give a pass on this one. This is his house now. No different than Biden giving a speech from his house! Ps: I am not a Trump supporter.

Y'all sound like a bunch of cry babies👶

Stir the pot.

Previous Presidents never had a pandemic changing the rules of almost every aspect of our life. GET OVER IT!

COVID.......stay at home...this is his house now and next 4 years

What is the point of a law if no one intends to enforce it? How many laws will be written after Trump leaves to ensure his abuses of traditional practices and law never happen again?

You know what else got blurred? The peaceful transition of power. The previous 43 presidents didn’t spy or sabotage the incoming administration

Y'all realize we're in middle of a pandemic shutdown, so guess things aren't gonna be done the normal way. Thinkoutsidethebox

Alpha Male. Understand it. Respect it. Winning with it.

like the propriety of violent riots the DNC ignored

Come on is a violation of the Hatch Act!

Trump thinks of himself as owner and proprietor not President.

Just here to tell u guys that DT is not running for potus but to become the 1st Dictator of the USA. He loves Putin & MBS. He would give & do anything to be a dictator for life ! And so you were worried about protocol ? Worry about the USPS scandle which he orchestrated.
