In a guest appearance on, the Puerto Rican actor defended Lin-Manuela Miranda, who wrote the music and lyrics of the original musical upon which the film is based and also produced and starred in the film. Moreno said the criticism, which has focused on the dearth of darker-skinned Afro-Latinx characters in the movie, “really upsets me.”
She continued, “You can never do right, it seems. This is the man who literally has brought Latino-ness and Puerto Rican-ness to America. I couldn’t do it. I mean, I would love to say I did, but I couldn’t. Lin-Manuel has done that, really single-handedly and I was thrilled to pieces and I’m proud that he produced my documentary.”
She’s not wrong. These days nothing is ever good enough for the ‘woke’ crowd.
Well since she is 89 and a total icon we”ll give her pass on her dismissiveness of the colorism controversy while Lin certainly does not deserve to be cancelled He has missed an opportunity to showcase actual diversity it is a legit critique and a necessary conversation.

He wrote what he knows and cast it how he envisioned it so since it’s not his experience being a dark skinned Latino he didn’t write that. It sucks there’s one movie a year apparently with Latins in it so we feel each one has to encapsulate us all.
