The alarming recent surge in COVID-19 cases appears to be driven at least in part by increases in infections among Californians ages 18 to 49.

As of Wednesday, 56% of people diagnosed with COVID-19 were 18 to 49 years old, though they account for only 43.5% of the state’s population. That figure has risen consistently throughout the outbreak but surged sharply in recent weeks.

The increasingly young demographics of coronavirus infections are being seen in California and beyond.Advertisementby the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that the people probably spreading the coronavirus in more than 60 clusters were mostly young adults, ages 20 to 39. Most did not show symptoms when they transmitted the virus, and almost none had a cough.

The governor’s news conference marks the third time this week that he has urged Californians to take more precautions as he disclosed troubling new highs.“I cannot impress upon people more the importance at this critical juncture, when we are experiencing an increase in cases that we have not experienced in the past, to take seriously this moment,” Newsom said. “If we do, we can mitigate and we can bend, and we ultimately can rebound and become more resilient still in the future.

Newsom said Thursday that he would consider “toggling back” and reinstating restrictions if healthcare needs began to exceed capacity.

As of now 2 in 100 people die of covid19 in L A county!

It's a low mortality virus. Who cares. Mortality rate 0.26% per the CDC.

Who fits that age range? L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer says it’s “highly likely” this surge is “connected to mass protests”

What’s the mortality rate?

You just need to follow the rules. Distancing a must, wash your hands a must and wear a mask and keep it on around friends a must. Go to the beach or a bar follow the rules mask off drink then mask on. Simple care and it will be over. Do as Freddie says

So what? Are they clogging up the hospitals, or just being asked to stay home until they are better.

Lol way to center and 📷 a couple of white people who are, by far, the least likeliest to work in sectors where the increases are growing, most of all the food and retail industries. Just, why

The protesters closed down the economy. We couldn't open the economy and do those 20,000 people mass gatherings at the same time. Thanks, Dems, for fucking the curve!

Omg

Wake me up when you get mortality rates on the same data.

What were 18-49 year olds doing in California the last two weeks? Hmmmmm?

Wear a fucking mask and social distance. It’s not brain surgery.

bMy husband went on a usiness trip,I do not want to be alone:(

Too wide a range to be meaningful.. 18-30, 31-40; 41-50 would be more useful

1)Has the CDC cleared up the 50% potential for a false positive test? 2) hospital patients that are Covid positive and are being tested everyday for 2 weeks- Does that mean they count for 14 positive cases? I have so many more questions based on what nurses are saying..

I hear there’s another BLM protest. who’s down?

I can’t imagine why . . .

Great work everyone.

Joe Biden just announced that 120 million are dead from COVID. 120 million? Biden has full-blown Dementia. As a black gay man from a swing state, I will be voting for the candidate who doesn't inflate US deaths by 1000. WalkAway Trump2020Landslide

Hospital chief talks Texas's rising coronavirus cases: 'People have completely let their guard down''I think what's happened and watching it around our community people have completely let their guard down.' Hospital chief talks Texas's rising coronavirus cases. MidweekEveningService Do as your master tells you. Umm. there is a difference between ' letting your guard down' and ' blatant disregard for others and recklessness'. I would say people in Texas, Florida and other Trumplican states with rising positve rates are being openly defiant and reckless.
