The rising cost of living is creating a crisis in Pennsylvania classrooms. However, organizations across Central PA are working to get into classrooms to help students access basic needs . Communities in Schools is a nationwide group serving nearly two million students by working in schools and assisting students access things like food, clothing, hygiene products and more. Communities in Schools of Pennsylvania (CISinPA) is the local branch serving students in Central PA.
The branch’s vice president, Lyndsey Sturkey, said if kids aren't getting the basic needs at home, they’re not going to be able to get the most out of their education. “When things are going perhaps not as well in school, that's usually an indicator that something might be going on at home that a family is struggling with,” Sturkey sai
