A similarly politicized clash took place in Kenosha, Wisconsin, days before, when 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse, who drove in from Illinois with a semi-automatic weapon with the intention of helping police defend the city from protester violence, was suspected of shooting and killing two people. Rittenhouse was later identified as a Trump supporter.
