Retiring GOP Rep. Fred Upton says death threats made bipartisan votes 'frightening'

Rep. Fred Upton said on Sunday that death threats — like those he received for voting for infrastructure spending — could "be a detriment getting good people to run" for Congress.Upton was one of 10 Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump for inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.Upton said on NBC's "Meet the Press" that he received death threats for voting in favor of the infrastructure bill, which he noted was at one point a Republican bill.

"It puts you at risk, particularly when they threaten not only you ... but when they threaten your spouse or your kids or whatever, that's what really makes it frightening," Upton said.

Republicans have created this monster with 40 years of lies, fear mongering and blatant racism. Their biggest weapon has been partnering with the religious right. When you give the drug of power to people who listen to invisible gods, they turn on you unless you obey their god.

Analysis of how GOP has weaponized public opinion, trolls, disinformation, etc. would be handy. Might help get a handle on how decent politicians are getting squeezed out, and everyone else has to follow a lock-step game plan. Maybe for a news outlet that does longer pieces.

Republicans lie about everything, don't believe them

Why didn't he publicly share this before? Something could have been done.
