'Respectfully, we request all governors to prioritize the health and safety of our workers and the communities we serve by requiring patrons to wear a mask when visiting our stores,' write 21 retail CEOs for CNNBusiness Perspectives

The following piece was written by 21 CEOs of major US retailers. The opinions expressed in this commentary are their own.

As our country grapples with the fear and hardship that Covid-19 continues to create, we have seen countless examples of Americans working diligently to help ensure that their families, friends and communities remain safe and secure. Retailers are doing everything we can to promote a safe re-opening of the economy so that we can put millions of people back to work while actively fighting the spread of Covid-19.

Those working in retail are our family members, friends and neighbors in both rural and urban communities. Unfortunately, many of these workers have recently endured verbal threats, harassment, and in some cases, physical violence for attempting to promote a safer environment for themselves and customers. More specifically, many have been subjected to these senseless attacks simply because they requested a customer wear a mask upon entry.

Business For profit business leaders doing more than policymakers. So sad and so bad!

Business Private businesses can do whatever they want to keep their shops safe, on their private properties. They don't need government interventions one way or the other.

Business Where are all the 'so called' Patriots? National pandemic and no says wearing a mask is the patriotic thinks to do for love of country. Patriots do things like that, not just follow the misguided noise for an idiotic President.

Business Government officials told American citizens they must wear masks. Weddings had to be cancelled. Graduations had to be cancelled. Any event requiring multiple people was cancelled. However, when BLM protested in the thousands, shoulder to shoulder, nobody batted an eye.

Business

Business Well written letter. I hope they stand behind it and it's not empty promises. If only our elected officials could get together for a common cause to unite people towards a common goal that betters us all

Business Anything on Portland abductions?

Business Maybe reassure people that this will not be forever...because there's a lot of fear going around that this is going to be part of everyday life

The Cares Act has helped and yet Republicans don’t want to extend the same benefits. Only because of the extra money they were getting on their unemployment checks. That's about to dry up. Because people had the extra unemployment to put into retail and economy.
