People in Lancaster Township , Lancaster County , are calling on officials to address safety concerns at roadway intersections in their neighborhood. More than 200 people signed a petition, requesting the township add traffic calming measures to ensure drivers follow the speed limit and yield laws on South West End Avenue . Over two dozen residents attended Monday's Board of Commissioners meeting, where many spoke about the issues they face when crossing the busy intersection.
And because of the nature of the design of the street you can get stranded in the middle on this little island and even when you have something like a baby or a stroller or young children with bikes, you can get stuck there while people decide whether or not to risk your life when they yield or don't yield,' said resident Gwen Tulin. Pennsylvania law requires all drivers to yield to pedestrians at intersections, even if there isn't a marked crosswalk.
