Residents concerned over rising Jordan River level already seeing ground swelling on Mar. 13, 2024. Residents along the Jordan River are in a struggle against nature as water levels rise, prompting action to safeguard their homes. In a South Jordan neighborhood nestled beside the Jordan River, near 11400 South, residents like Justin Palfreyman are working to redirect water away from their homes.

Palfreyman has a sump well three feet below his home's foundation that is now filled with groundwater. The river currents have eroded portions of the bank, bringing the water alarmingly close to homes. Palfreyman's primary concern is the potential flooding of his basement. Despite preparedness measures like water alarms and a backup pump, the overwhelming volume of water is still a threat.

"If it keeps going up, they basically said I can't pump the volume of the river out of my house," he said. As water managers work to alleviate pressure on Utah Lake, which is at capacity, downstream communities brace for the impact.Stay Connected
