Pressed on the question, the president said, “Get rid of the ballots and…we’ll have a very peaceful—there won’t be a transfer. Frankly, there’ll be a continuation.” Democrats quickly criticized the president for his remarks, and several Republicans did so Thursday as well—without directly mentioning Mr. Trump.
“The winner of the November 3rd election will be inaugurated on January 20th,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a tweet. “There will be an orderly transition just as there has been every four years since 1792.”
