OpEd: 'If merely thinking about the construct of race is so dangerous, the practice of enforcing political and systemic divisions based on that same construct is even more dangerous.' - meelanash on why students need critical race theory ⤵️

who inhabited this land before him . Where’s the outrage about the ways those false teachings hurt nonwhite kids? Nonetheless, here we are. All of us — Black, white, Asian, Indigenous — descendants and inhabitants of a country whose history is deeply rooted in the practice of enforcing this construct of race.

The U.S. that we live in today, with all its flaws and beauty, wouldn’t be what it is without race. James Baldwin, writer and activist, once, “I love America more than any other country in the world and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually.” After all, how much can you truly love your country if in the telling of its story, you insist on leaving out the parts that truly define it? To love a fictional iteration of your country is no patriotism at all.

Again...I believe one of many important films...one I believe kids would likely to be more engaged in watching is 'Hidden Figures'...I wish it could make its way into the curriculum. It's so very powerful and quite the eye opener for those unaware.

Critical race theory is not about our history, it is about our present.

meelanash Wow, nothing about the inaccuracies of 1619 Project, and you get the three fifths compromise COMPLETELY WRONG. Teaching racial history is fine but when you break kids out based on their skin color and label them as a opressed versus oppressors, that’s where CRT is problematic.

meelanash If I recall correctly (I'm correct) Trump was also the FIRST President to back gay marriage....do you remember what Obama said at the beginning of his term? Or does your journalistic skills not go that far to actually research THE TRUTH GARBAGE

meelanash How drunk does your editorial staff have to get before you agree to publish one of Jameelah's lol 'articles'?

meelanash you do realize the 3/5ths compromise attempted to take power away from the southern states. your insinuation that it counted an enslaved person as 3/5ths of a person is misleading. if they'd been fully counted the south would have had more power. do some simple research

meelanash That was the biggest crock of shit I’ve ever wasted my time reading.
