A news anchor went viral after exposing a racist voicemail that called her “very Asian” for saying she ate dumplings to celebrate New Year’s Eve. She’s reclaiming those words by publishing “A Very Asian Guide to Korean Food.”

"I don’t think anyone should be embarrassed about food because food is who we are," news anchor and author Michelle Li said.Rosemary Dai Ross; Gloo BooksMichelle Li, a St. Louis-based news anchor who went viral after a viewer left a racist voice message in response to Li saying she ate dumplings to celebrate New Year's Eve, has written a new children’s book about Korean food.

“I kind of take offense to that,” the caller said, according to the tweeted video. “What if one of your white anchors said well, white people eat this on New Year’s Day? I don’t think it was appropriate that she said that. She’s being very Asian. ... She can keep her Korean to herself.” “When the voicemail went viral, I was like, first of all, Korean food is not offensive, you know?” Li told NBC News. “And second of all, actually, I don’t have a book like that. Like, I actually don’t have a book that I can bring to my son that we can talk about this.”

“We identified things that we thought were not really popular in the United States,” Li said. “I thought it would be nice to see a more modern representation of Korean food available for kids and really anyone.”

NBCNewYork This World is Full of Hypocrites .. No Surprise

Pushing for decency in a world full of Republicans is maddeningly difficult. If they would moderate themselves in public that would be a start.

Okay but dumplings are amazing

you go girl

'Very Asian' is racist but Dems comments toward black Republicans is not a problem.

Not even close to racist

Posted several times already. Let it GO.

You go, girl!

Thats not racist. Perhaps inappropriate, but not at all racist.

How absolutely nonsensical, if I had a tea and scone to celebrate, people would say ‘that’s very british’ - this divisive and exploitative use of ‘racism’ it’s absurd.

what happened to freedom of speech, now it is freedom of speech until you upset a person or a group of people.

And how is that comment racist?

Fox NBC edition with more slow stirs of the pot. CNN or NBC to the basement first?

Not racist. When you call EVERYTHING racist, then nothing is racist.

So Racism helped her?

Is there a recipe for dog? Like with noodles & cream sauce: fettuccine al Fido....😮
