El Congreso del organismo rector del fútbol mundial tiene previsto votar sobre las dos candidaturas el 17 de mayo, durante su reunión en Bangkok.
La fuerza de tarea de evaluación de las candidaturas determinó que ambas ameritaban ser consideradas, dado que “excedieron los requerimientos mínimos para ser sede”, según el análisis técnico. La semana pasada, Estados Unidos y México retiraron una candidatura conjunta. La federación estadounidense de fútbol indicó que, en vez de ello, los dos países se concentrarán en el torneo de 2031.
