Rep. Steve King slammed after he told constituents at a town hall that victims of Hurricane Katrina pleaded for help from the government in contrast to residents of his home state of Iowa who 'take care of each other.'

WASHINGTON — GOP Rep. Steve King is under fire after he told constituents at a town hall that victims of Hurricane Katrina pleaded for help from the government in contrast to residents of his home state of Iowa who"take care of each other."

King said he visited New Orleans, which is a majority black city, multiple times after the deadly 2005 storm. More than 1,800 people, mostly black, died from the disaster; however, government officials have noted that the true death toll could be much higher.Recent spring flooding in the Midwest has devastated towns and rural communities across the region and has been blamed for three deaths.

This man has no empathy for the people who lived thru Katrina. And has no right to disparage the way the State of Louisiana dealt with what happened.

His racist supporters love him. Midwesterners have repeated this false narrative for years.

BrendaL03778178 Let's wait on the Republican outrage.

As an Iowan, I can assure he’s correct about the people of Iowa. I’m also quite sure that he’s dead wrong about the good people of Louisiana. He’s such an embarrassment.

Steve KKKing KKKant help himself

He’s exactly right. Look at New Orleans residents and their response vs Iowa

Another message labeled as racist and it’s not... Yawn

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and acts like a duck; its definitely a.....but then again, privilege is fucked up thing in the wrong hands.

I was on one of the 1st volunteer Crisis Response Teams to reach New Orleans after Katrina, helped a forgotten hospital & saw bodies in the streets. Rep. Steve King is ignorant, disgusting, bigoted, racist & has no place in Congress. There’s no safe harbor for bigotry in society.

Yet Ilhan Omar can do much worse and not even be condemned for it. Maybe Steve King doesn’t understand what he’s saying, right SpeakerPelosi?

I would guess that SteveKingIA is going to run for President because he sounds just like the one we have now. Rude and classless.

'White supremacist' label means nothing anymore, just like racist and Nazi. Dems label all white people that who object at being replaced.

but but but...

He can say what he wants no?
