Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, taped a 90-second video assuring voters that he has done nothing criminal or unethical, after the FBI raided his home and office.“I’m fully cooperating with law enforcement and committed to ensuring that justice and the law is upheld,” Cuellar said in a video posted to Twitter after the raid. “There is an ongoing investigation that will show that there was no wrongdoing on my part.
Cuellar is one of the most conservative Democrats in Congress — he opposes abortion rights and supports free trade, gun rights, oil and gas, and tougher border security. He has also co-chaired the Congressional Azerbaijan Caucus and has previously promoted a pipeline that would deliver Azerbaijan gas to Europe.a Houston-based Azerbaijani businessman,
who has donated to Cuellar’s campaigns. In 2018 Oksuz pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about a 2013 trip to Azerbaijan that he had organized for 10 members of Congress. Foreign money paid for the trip, which is illegal. Cuellar and his wife took a separate trip to Azerbaijan and Turkey earlier in 2013 that cost nearly $20,000. Oksuz has maintained that foreign money did not pay for that trip.
