It was a history-making night at the United Center on Saturday — and the Chicago Blackhawks were on the business end of it, as the Seattle Kraken scored a team-record six goals in the first period of their 8-5 win.

When Domi’s goal cut the Kraken lead to 6-3 just 51 seconds into the third, it gave the Hawks a puncher’s chance of a comeback.

“It may have been the worst thing that happened to us. Instead of not scoring there and maybe having to work back into the game, I think we just thought it was going to happen tonight.”Alex Stalock replaced Petr Mrázek after Mrázek allowed the third goal in that stretch and his fourth overall. Stalock then gave up a goal to Eeli Tolvanen and the Hawks called timeout. The Hawks held the Kraken scoreless in the second period and scored four goals between the second and third .

Said Domi: “To be honest with you, we’ve already flushed it. You can’t go longer than as soon as that buzzer goes. We know we weren’t good enough and it doesn’t do any good to dwell on that. We’ll bounce back.”Could it be when Stalock was pressed into duty, then immediately gave up a goal? Or how about when the Hawks called a timeout, then immediately gave up another goal?

Isaak Phillips scored his first career goal, flipping the puck over Martin Jones for the only score of the second period.Richardson also credited Jason Dickinson, who had the assist. The Kraken scored six goals in the first 13:11, the eighth-fastest a team has scored six goals to start a game in league history, according to NHL Stats.Another statistic to consider came at Eddie Olcyzk’s suggestion during a break in the game: Look at the type of goals. The Kraken's Andre Burakovsky, center, celebrates his goal with Jordan Eberle and Matty Beniers during the first period Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at the United Center.
