Atlantic Visiting Nurse Rummage Sale at the Far Hills FairgroundsRain washed away Saturday as a shopping day, but the cold misty weather and mud could not stop bargain hunters on Sunday.
More than 400 volunteers spent weeks sorting, repairing, and preparing donated items for Atlantic Health’s“People will do anything for a bargain and support a good cause,” said Daniel Powell ofShoppers lined up early on Sunday and the hours were extended until 4:30 pm due to Saturday’s rain cancellation. Toys, sporting equipment, clothing, and, jewelry are just a few of the 25 departments of merchandise available for purchase.
The rummage sale is held twice every year and Sunday is half price and fill a bag for a flat fee day. Some departments had Iines of buyers waiting to enter. Shoppers who were wearing boots had a much easier time navigating the water and mud. “I love this, it’s a happy place,” said Karen Gamble who has volunteered in the toys section for the last nine years.
Proceeds help provide home care, hospice, and adult day services to families in need. “We have 25 charities lined up for all items not sold by the end of the day on Sunday,” Powell said.
