Rafael Nadal overcame Russia's Daniil Medvedev in a grueling five-hour final to win the Australian Open, becoming the first man to claim 21 Grand Slam titles

The combination of being down by two sets and 35 years old should have been enough to end Rafael Nadal’s. The Melbourne heat, a string of mistakes, and a much younger opponent all seemed to have him on the ropes.

But Nadal always knew that if he was going to overtake Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to reach an unprecedented 21st major championship, it would require something epic. And in Sunday’s Australian Open final, that’s precisely what he delivered.
