Harrisburg police investigating racist and antisemitic graffiti spray painted on a vacant city owned building. The Harrisburg Police Department is investigating after a swastika and the n-word were spray painted onto a vacant city building.
Officials say the racist and antisemitic graffiti was found on Friday morning at the vacant traffic engineering building on South 19th and Caledonia Streets. Officials said somebody broke into the building, but it is unclear exactly when it happened. Officials said public works have boarded up the windows at the building until the investigation is complete. This morning, the City of Harrisburg woke up to discover that we were the victims of hateful vandalism. A vacant city-owned building at South 19th and Caledonia Streets was broken into, and a swastika and n-words were spray painted on windows from the inside. I have Commissioner Carter and Harrisburg Police investigating how this happened.
I want to be very clear: hate has no place in Harrisburg. This is not just an attack on our Black and Jewish population. These words and symbols are anti-Hispanic, anti-LGBTQ, and in general, just anti-American, and does not represent us. We are in a time where a lot that is going on in the world is dividing us, so I call on Harrisburg – my Harrisburg that I grew up in, that I know at its core is just as upset about this as me – to band together and push this hate out.
