Yes, Hollywood has a problem with their portrayals of Asian Americans in film, and Quentin Tarantino isn't even fit to have a conversation with Lee's name in it.
He just do not have to 'defend' something.
I was a bit surprised with the portrayal of Lee and as one of the 'real' chrs in the film I can see how this could be controversial and difficult for his friends to watch (Inosanto was my fmr teacher btw). But Tarantino's chrs are mostly over the top. And who wasn't in this film?
How about someone call Tarantino out on his misreading of Linda Lee's book. 'One critic wrote: ‘Those who watched him would bet on Lee to render Cassius Clay senseless if they were put in a room and told that anything goes.” (pg. 88) Far from Lee saying it himself.
If anyone is arrogant, it is Tarantino.
Overly sensitive, thin-skinned, quacking ducks.
Not arrogant, confident like most Americans!! Your that Director that would have passed him up because you could not control his greatness
JamesHayesy
Even it's true, Lee's appearing arrogance is reactionary against the general discriminating atmosphere toward Asians in the era.
2/If he had done any research he'd have seen that Bruce was being challenged all the time on the set, most notably on Enter The Dragon. And he wiped the floor with them and then told them to get back to work. This movie is an abomination to Lee's memory. Shame on you.
BruceLeeFDN 1/This jackass knows nothing about Bruce Lee. First off, Bruce would've annihilated that stuntman in a real life. Second, Bruce was no bully. There's a difference between arrogance and confidence.
It was a sad portrayal of the legend!! I hope Q is not being a racist!
Tarantino loves to steal and rip off from Asian directors' ideas on how to make movies while give them no credit. At the same time, he bashes Asian men in all of his movies. Bruce is just his latest target. Tarantino is just latest POS example from racist white Hollywood.
Sure, but also keep in mind this is coming from someone who isn't exactly the most racially sensitive guy..I mean this interview speaks for itself:
Imagine talking shit about Bruce Lee.
What a disgusting director, who started to put the great man in place without the consent of his family, who thinks he knows Bruce lee, Mr. Lee's daughter, who is indeed a descendant of Bruce lee, who speaks with reason and conviction, and should make quentin pay the court.
'Once upon a time ... in Hollywood' is slops. Quentin Tarantino is a bastard.
Gosh all this 'butthurt' about Bruce Lee. Go look at the film again. This BL scene is a 'recollection' of Booth's while on the roof fixing antenna. It is not in the context of the actual narrative, but perhaps a 'Rashimon'esque shading of the truth. Credit QT's breadth.
Tarantino is dismantling Lee's legacy.
QT is confusing the confident characters that Bruce Lee portrays vs Bruce Lee the human. Bruce didn't do little insecure things like challenging people on set, it was the opposite. Extras would challenge Bruce. As for the Ali thing, Matthew Polly has already put QT in his place.
The was very boring and if u paid to see it i feel sorry for u. Zzzzzzzz.
.... he's racist.
paoloCODMW3 Yeah he fucking did.
For a minute there I thought he was talking about himself.
Cassius Clay Bruce Lee
We don’t know how he was in real life. Many celebrities who knew him said he’s a really caring nice simple guy. Also either way given he is a legend it was unnecessary to portray him in an arrogant way in the movie.
Ang Lee's upcoming Once Upon A Time In Knoxville about the early life of Quentin Tarantino likes this quote.
What's the difference between Chinese, arrogance and White arrogance?
Love the movie. 100% agree with Tarantino. Good man and fantastic director.
Matthew Polly, an actual expert on Bruce Lee, disagrees. Check out his feed for his response.
Just more distractions from the fact that this movie was booorrrrriiinnggggggg 😅 Like Tarantino as a director but all his 'dialogue' puts me to sleep 😜
Hang in there, Q...👍🏻
I’d like to see that book his wife wrote. Would be really hard for people to keep bitching about Quentin if that’s the case.
That shuts a lot of people up.
I thought the film was boring and used a cheap trick at the end. The film really had no plot, and relied heavily on the actors performances to pull it along. Without Harvey Weinstein to give him input it seems his film has suffered. The Bruce Lee scene was not even necessary.
Not good enough. Tarantino doesn't even understand what he did wrong. He's just doubling down on a terribly insensitive and offensive choice.
The master quentin
Why take a shot at Bruce Lee. Bet he would not take a shot a John Wayne. It was a punk move on his part. Then have Bruce disparage Ali. That was a two for one shot. Chinese vs Black. QT was giving a shout out to his right wing friends. Never will watch any of his movies again
Honestly that film is a masterpiece and the Bruce Lee scene was a top 20 Tarantino scenes
He has nothing to defend. It was a great movie. MOVIE! You are allowed to tell a fictional story however you see fit.
People who I don’t like it can GFY. The movie was amazing
Is it me, or does he look like a young Stan Lee.
If you don’t like it, feel free to make your own movie portraying Bruce Lee
I rather watch a movie with the real Bruce Lee on it than any of Tarantino’s
Tell'em to get off ya D*ck Quentin!
Throughout the movie Bruce Lee is treated like an excellent teacher and the highlight of the characters lives. The scene where he gets 'beat up' is really nice, considering its from the POV of a jealous tough guy, and even then bruce lee is practically unscathed
Best film of the year
ffs. this scene was a dream sequence from an unreliable narrator. also, the entire movie is a historical reimagining. relax, everybody.
