'Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family,' Queen Elizabeth II said in a statement.

The rest of the statement detailed the transitional period, which will see Meghan and Harry splitting time between Canada and the U.K.

The statement concluded by saying that more details must be ironed out in how the Royal Family will move forward. The statement, which was published on all of the couple's social media accounts, said the pair intends to"step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."

The statement from the couple added that the Sussexes will raise their son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, with respect of royal traditions, and independent life. They also revealed a new charity organization that has not yet launched.
