DUBAI - Qatar’s public prosecutor has filed criminal charges against an unspecified number of police officers working at Qatar’s Hamad airport after women said they were invasively searched there last month.
Some of the women were Australian and the issue has sparked outrage in Australia. Qatari officials said the searches were conducted in order to locate the mother of a new-born child found abandoned in a garbage bin in an airport bathroom. Judicial police officers working in the Airport Security Department broke the law when they summoned female medical staff to conduct the searches, the public prosecutor said in a statement on MondayThe public prosecutor did not say what crimes had been committed, how many police officers had been charged or detail the penalties they faced, such as imprisonment, if convicted.
The mother, identified as of “Asian nationality”, faces a maximum penalty of 15 years if convicted, the statement said.
There are no human rights in Qatar. That’s why it didn’t cross their mind that what they were doing was morally wrong and assault. Better to boycott Qatar.
Inappropriate invasive searches of women is just disgusting! Stop covering up what happened and start taking action. boycottqatarairways
In NSW Australia it’s just normal policy. But mostly just for children and teenagers. Weirdo pervy NSW cops. No one cares....
Definitely a cover up to protect a national... these decisions aren't made by airport police officer, someone with authority has to give the go ahead.
A “crime” happened in the airport, and the people are the “suspects”!! Definitely unusual measures will be taken
Were the searches carried out by men or women?
Probably should have just kept the plane grounded and had further investigation for the baby's mother.
