Protesters retake Portland State University library after police leave

"Additionally, our personnel had been working very long hours under extremely difficult circumstances. We are monitoring the situation," he wrote."At this very minute, we haven't closed campus for tomorrow, but I'm sure you can understand this is a very fluid situation," wrote Christina Williams., police said they made at least 12 arrests. Later in the afternoon, police took more people into custody, bringing the total to 22.

Late in the afternoon, however, protesters linked arms and refused to move. Protesters also hurled water bottles at officers. Water bottles littered the street. Portland police said PSU officers took the driver, a man, into custody. They took him to a hospital on a police mental health hold. Just before 9 a.m., people that were inside the building ran out. A few were arrested, but most got away.

“We encountered a lot of barricades. A lot of things put in our way to slow us down,” said Portland Police Bureau spokesperson Sgt. Kevin Allen.“Officers entered the building and took the elevator to the top of the building,” Allen said. “We secured the top floors and then slowly, carefully, and deliberately, working their way down the building as they went.”
