Protect your eyes for Monday's eclipse: Optometrist shares safety tips

The entire sequence of the 2019 annular solar eclipse from start to finish. This sequence shows the beginning of the eclipse and continues all the way until the ring of fire is formed.Orders for special eclipse glasses are rushing to be filled for the upcoming eclipse on Monday.

Dr. Sabrina Steed-- an optometrist specializing in low-vision at the Geisinger Healthplex Centerpoint in Pittson-- has some helpful tips about the glasses needed for eclipse viewers. "The eclipse is going to start around two or so, so you want to make sure you have those glasses on if you are going to be anywhere near the sun. They need to be on your face and need to be the ISO 12312-2 standard." said Dr. Sabrina Steed.

"They have to be real because they sell anything on the internet. You want to make sure you are trying and testing them beforehand." she added. She says it's important to note the glasses' authenticity-- adding it's an exciting time, but everyone should be prepared for the viewing.
