Published: May . 2, 2024 at 5:52 PM AKDTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - One year ago, Governor Dunleavy established the month of May as Alaska Native Plant Month. This year, during the second annual celebration, the Alaska Native Plant Society is working to spread awareness and propagate these crucial species.
In his proclamation Governor Dunleavy stated that native plants are “the best option for conserving and protecting our environment and adapting to its changes,” and that “it is vital to encourage public awareness about the benefits of Alaska’s native plants and to recognize their importance to our traditional ways of life, to our rich heritage, to our pollinators and other wildlife, to our economy, and to the health and sustainability of Alaska’s vibrant ecosystems.
