Sea-Tac Airport,Protesters,Court

Dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters accused of blocking the main road to Sea-Tac airport last month have pleaded not guilty in court this morning.

Pro-Palestinian protestors blocked the road to arrivals and departures terminals at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport on Monday, April 15. 46 people were arrested for 'failing to disperse' and 'disorderly conduct' which are misdemeanors but could carry jail time. A misdemeanor carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and up to a thousand-dollar fine.

The city of Sea-Tac said 41 of the 46 will be arraigned in court on Monday while the other five waived their right to be at the hearing. On April 15, protesters used vehicles to block the entrance drive to SEA. The protest lasted for approximately two hours as police towed away the vehicles and detained several protesters who had used a “Sleeping Dragon” to chain their arms together.

The group was demanding a permanent ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war, and their protest was part of a larger coordinated effort nationwide “day of action” by pro-Palestine groups to protest the war in Gaza together on April 15. The protest trapped travelers who were trying to access the terminal on the airport expressway leading to the airport, many of whom opted to get their luggage and walk to the terminal instead of waiting in their cars. Sea-Tac said 24 flights were delayed as a result of the incident.During their court appearance Monday, as part of the protesters' release, they are being ordered to stay away from Sea-Tac airport, unless they have a valid travel reason.

12 people were arrested after the January protest on I-5 in Seattle shutdown. They are facing possible gross misdemeanor charges. The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is expected to make a charging decision soon.

Opinion: How to be pro-Palestinian, pro-Israeli and pro-IranianIran’s missile and drone attack on Israel over the weekend was a game-changing escalation that requires some game-changing rethinking on the part of Israel and its most important ally, the United States. I call it “the three-state solution.”
