To most Americans, Charles Spencer may be best known as the aristocratic brother of Diana, Princess of Wales, the man who at her 1997and the House of Windsor, pledging that it was “blood family” who would protect young William and Harry after their mother’s death.
Instead, this is a story with a clear remit: to confront the British school system with the abuses it has long enabled. Spencer, destabilized by his parents’ divorce and his mother’s departure from the home, was sent off to Maidwell Hall to learn to be an Englishman.
