Biden said he will send six additional military teams to help the medical response in states including Ohio, Michigan, New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island.

“We are grateful for the federal support as we continue to face a challenging COVID-19 surge in our Ohio hospitals,” said a statement from Cleveland Clinic CEO and President Tom Mihalejevic. “The addition of military medical personnel allows us to care for more patients in our community. We continue to urge everyone to take precautions and receive their COVID-19 vaccine, as the majority of our patients hospitalized with COVID-19 are unvaccinated.

Biden said that since Thanksgiving, more than 800 military and other federal emergency personnel have been deployed to 24 states, tribes, and territories, including over 350 military doctors, nurses, and medics, helping staff the hospitals that are in short supply. In addition to that, he said more than 14,000 National Guard members have been activated in 49 states to help with coronavirus response.
