BLENDON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A pregnant woman who was suspected of shoplifting was fatally shot by a police officer when she refused to get out of her vehicle, then tried to run over an officer with the car, police say.saying two officers involved the incident have been placed on administrative leave during the investigation Thursday’s shooting of Ta’Kiya Young, 21, of Columbus.Young was six months pregnant with her third child. The unborn child also died in the shooting.
An officer approached the driver’s side of the Lexus after Young had started the car, police say, and ordered her to get out. Police say Young ignored the order. Instead, Young is accused of accelerating forward toward an officer, who fired one shot through the windshield of the vehicle. Body-camera footage has not yet been released, but Belford says it shows the officer was in the car’s path when the shot was fired.
